The approach you suggest makes sense to me. So basically the addict trades one addiction for another. I have contacts in the pharmaceutical industry and will do see what information I can get about this problem with the drug. I do think that the drug therapy should not be long term but rather shorter term with therapy combined so that the addict can eventually get off the drug completely and make it on their own strength.
Thank you for sharing your feelings and thoughts with me. I know that Suboxone is a miracle to many people and has been a tremendous help. I will have to do some more research about the long long term effects of taking the medication. What I am wondering is about the idea of eventually tapering off of the Suboxone – slowly and with the doctors care. The whole issue of opiate addiction is complex and I do not think there is just one easy solution that works for everyone. Thanks!
I forgot to mention one thing. I think Suboxone would be great if only used for a few weeks/months. After that it becomes extremely dangerous. It would be great to get through heroin withdrawals, briefly, until the withdrawals are over. but long term is renders all of the mu receptors in your brain irreversibly and permanently unable to function, which means that over time, you become incable of ever feeling happy again. you are clincally incapable of happiness. the drug company was aware
You are a very nice man. There should be immediate help for addicts to get on Suboxone. The problem is that Suboxone is all about getting people who can afford to pay big bucks for life addicted to it. There is no getting off of it, ever. Death would be better. The drug company designed it to cause terrible depression when taken long-term, but getting off of it is impossible. I have been on for 6 years, and fighting to stay alive now.
Thanks Dave! I appreciate your kind words!
