If this substance works in it’s application to addiction(most notably opiate addiction)then I would have to assume this was for either psychological or neurological reasons obviously triggered by the initial physiological effects.

That’s a fair comment mate!
My guess would be(from what I’ve heard and read about Ibo)that this drugs psychodelic attributes seem to somehow trigger the guilt/empathy part of the psyche and thus makes you reflect upon your life with these factors at the forefront of your mind.
I can imagine this would allow an addict to reflect upon the ramifications of their condition and maybe encourage them adjust their behavior and general outlook in a positive manner.
