Don’t you think that Suboxone being 20 times stronger than morphine is counter productive for low grade opiate addiction? Wouldn’t weening them from their DOC and putting them on Naltrexone is a better way to deal with addiction?

Glad to hear this. I’ve been on suboxone [4mg] for about 20 months, maybe more. Before that I was on methadone for 4-5 years. Over a year ago I relapsed and a friend overdosed at my house (ambulance saved him) I got probation because the cops arrived too and found our bag of heroin. They said it was 6 grams. Long story short, I got 1 year probation and lost my license for 6 months. I have less than 10 days left of probation. Now I wrote all that to show you relapses do happen on suboxone. *cont*

people ask me this question all the time. It’s like if you never went through it then you don’t know. If something is helping you stay sober and your doing well, then why in the hell would you want to get off of it unless the person who is on it really really wants to. You shouldn’t get off of suboxone or methadone unless you want to for yourself. Thanks doctor, your a pretty cool guy I must say.

We’re so far past the point where mainstream society should have started to embrace new methods of treating addiction, particularly opiate addiction. 12-step programs may work for a handful of people but it’s not even an option for many and simply saying “come back when you’ve hit your bottom” doesn’t cut it in my book. Too many opiate addicts die while in search of their bottom.
